The Seattle Mariners have locked in their franchise centerpiece for the foreseeable future. Star outfielder Julio Rodríguez has officially signed a four-year, $53 million contract extension that will keep him in Seattle through the 2027 season, the team announced Tuesday.
The deal includes a staggering $49.65 million signing bonus and is fully guaranteed, cementing Rodríguez’s place as one of the highest-paid young players in baseball. He will earn an average annual salary of $13.25 million under the terms of the new agreement.
Rodríguez, 24, has quickly blossomed into one of MLB’s brightest stars since debuting in 2022. Known for his electric combination of power, speed, and charisma, the 2022 AL Rookie of the Year has become the face of the Mariners franchise and a central figure in their playoff aspirations.
“Julio represents everything we value in a player — elite talent, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to winning,” said Mariners President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto. “This extension is a reflection of our belief in him and our commitment to building a championship-caliber team around him.”
This is not Rodríguez’s first major deal. In 2022, he signed a historic long-term contract with multiple options and performance incentives. The new extension reportedly restructures and locks in his earnings for the 2025–2027 seasons with additional guarantees, possibly in response to his continued development and elite production.
With this deal, the Mariners signal their intent to compete deep into October while building around their homegrown superstar.
Rodríguez has posted a .281 batting average with 82 home runs and 94 stolen bases over his first three MLB seasons, becoming an All-Star in both 2023 and 2024. He remains one of the most marketable players in the game and a fan favorite across the league.
