The Colombian forward’s Anfield exit seems increasingly certain following a summer of speculation, as it has been widely reported that Diaz wants an improved contract.
Barcelona showed an interest, but they were not willing to meet his asking price plus the sizeable contract.
Exclusive: Luis Diaz has agreed terms with Bayern Munich
We understand that Diaz’s camp have already agreed terms with Bayern in principle that will see him earn in excess of £200,000-a-week.
Liverpool’s asking price had stood at €100million but we are told that they are ready to accept Bayern’s offer that will be worth €80million – of which €10million will be add-ons.
Bayern turned their attention to Diaz, having failed with bids to land Florian Wirtz and Nico Williams earlier in the summer.
Our resident transfer expert Graeme Bailey said: “Liverpool are ready to move on from Luis Diaz – once they made it clear they were not going to give him a new contract, this was only going in one direction.
“To get this amount of money for a 28-year-old is good business for them. The club don’t need to raise money for any future deals, such as Alexander Isak, but they have pushed to get what they see as a good deal.
“This won’t be the last sale, and club sources tell me that Darwin Nunez’s exit is a matter of when rather than if.”
Luis Diaz exit and record Alexander Isak deal unrelated
It is understood Alexander Isak has prioritised Liverpool for a potential move this summer, after asking Newcastle for an improved £300,000-a-week contract.
Amid reports of Liverpool preparing a £150m bid for Isak, Diaz’s exit has been linked to what could be the biggest Premier League transfer of the summer.
Speaking on X, journalist Sacha Tavolieri said: “Liverpool Football Club’s expected to receive a €70M + €10M bid from FC Bayern Münich for Luis Diaz in the next hours.
“Talks are underway between clubs as #LFC won’t suppress the Colombian’s desire to leave. That deal would also help the Reds to proceed on Isak.”
It’s telling that Liverpool have seemingly made a complete u-turn on their stance on Diaz, giving further credence to reports that Liverpool are serious about a move for Newcastle’s Swedish international, but TBR Football understands the two deals are independent of each other.
Diaz has been a standout star for Liverpool since his move from FC Porto in 2022 and was pivotal to Arne Slot securing the Premier League title in his first season at the helm.
A move away would mark the start of a new era at Anfield as Slot looks to make his mark on the current champions, having already secured the signatures of Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili and Hugo Ekitike this summer, as well as deals for Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman.
