In a stunning and heartfelt act of generosity, Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers has donated his entire $6.8 million bonus and recent endorsement earnings to a network of local charities and homelessness support organizations across the Boston area.

The donation, one of the largest ever made by an active Major League Baseball player to local causes, was announced this morning during a press conference at Fenway Park. Devers, 28, appeared alongside representatives from more than a dozen nonprofits, including Pine Street Inn, Rosie’s Place, Boston Health Care for the Homeless, and the Greater Boston Food Bank.

> “Boston has given me everything — this city, these fans, this team. I want to give back in a way that truly helps people who are struggling right now,” Devers said emotionally. “This isn’t about recognition. It’s about doing what’s right.”

According to sources close to Devers, the entire amount stems from a recent performance bonus combined with endorsement deals from several major sports and apparel brands. Rather than investing the funds or saving them, Devers directed every dollar toward shelters, food programs, and transitional housing efforts, many of which are currently overwhelmed by demand.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu praised the move as “a moment of true leadership and compassion.”

> “Rafael Devers is more than a superstar athlete. He’s a champion for the people of Boston, and today he showed what it means to stand up for your community,” Mayor Wu said.

The Red Sox organization also released a statement applauding Devers’ decision, calling him “an extraordinary role model on and off the field.”

Local charities said the donation will have an immediate impact. Lyndia Downie, President and Executive Director of the Pine Street Inn, said the funds will go toward expanding shelter capacity and creating permanent supportive housing units.

> “We are absolutely blown away by Rafael’s generosity,” Downie said. “This will change lives.”

As one of the league’s most consistent performers, Devers has long been a fan favorite. But today’s announcement may have solidified his place not just in Red Sox history — but in Boston’s heart.
