In an unprecedented move, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has imposed the highest fine in league history on a referee, following what the league is calling a “series of egregious officiating errors” during the high-stakes game between the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers last Sunday.

 

According to an official statement released this morning by the NFL, the referee — whose name has not yet been disclosed — made multiple critical mistakes that “clearly impacted the outcome” of the game. Commissioner Goodell confirmed that after an intensive 72-hour review of game footage, expert consultation, and internal discussions, the league determined that the officiating crew failed to apply basic rules correctly at key moments.

 

> “The integrity of the game is paramount,” Goodell said. “We have taken this matter seriously. The level of error demonstrated in this game is unacceptable and undermines the trust that fans, players, and coaches place in the NFL.”
