In a shocking development, St. Louis Blues star center Robert Thomas has been suspended indefinitely from all team and league activities following a positive test for a banned substance, according to a statement released by the NHL early Wednesday morning.

League officials confirmed that the 26-year-old tested positive during a routine offseason screening. Details regarding the specific substance have not yet been made public, but sources close to the situation suggest it may be a performance-enhancing drug (PED) that is strictly prohibited under the NHL/NHLPA collective bargaining agreement.

The St. Louis Blues organization responded swiftly, issuing a brief statement:

> “We are aware of the situation involving Robert Thomas and are cooperating fully with the league’s investigation. At this time, we will not be making further comments until more information becomes available.”

Thomas, who just completed a career-best season with 84 points (27 goals, 57 assists), was expected to play a pivotal leadership role for the Blues heading into the 2025–26 season. His sudden suspension casts uncertainty over the team’s preseason preparations and raises serious questions about both the player’s future and the team’s depth at center.

The NHL is expected to provide a full report later this week. Depending on the findings, Thomas could face a lengthy suspension and mandatory rehabilitation or education programs as outlined in the league’s drug policy.

More updates to follow as this story develops.
