In a major announcement that’s already sending waves through the sports and entertainment world, Netflix has unveiled “The UnderDog”, a compelling new documentary chronicling the life and legacy of Dallas Cowboys icon Roger Staubach.

Dubbed one of the most inspirational sports stories of all time, “The UnderDog” dives deep into Staubach’s journey from a Navy quarterback to Heisman Trophy winner, and ultimately to Super Bowl champion and Hall of Famer. The film paints a vivid portrait of his leadership, resilience, and the underdog spirit that defined his career — both on and off the field.

Produced by NFL Films in collaboration with Netflix Sports, the documentary features never-before-seen footage, exclusive interviews with former teammates, coaches, rivals, and Staubach himself. Appearances from notable figures including Troy Aikman, Tom Landry’s family, Emmitt Smith, and even former President George W. Bush underscore Staubach’s broad cultural impact.

Netflix described the film as “a story of discipline, patriotism, and unexpected greatness — a man who put country before fame, and football before fortune.”

“The UnderDog” will premiere globally on Netflix on July 19, 2025, just ahead of the NFL’s preseason. A limited theatrical release is also planned in select cities across Texas, including Dallas and Fort Worth.

Roger Staubach is not just a sports legend — he’s a national figure whose career helped shape the modern NFL.

This marks Netflix’s latest push into high-quality sports documentaries following the success of “Quarterback”, “The Redeem Team”, and “L

ast Chance U.”
