In a stunning and heartwarming development for basketball fans, the Phoenix Suns have announced that NBA Hall of Famer and franchise legend Connie Hawkins is officially rejoining the organization — this time as a Senior Coaching Advisor.

Described by many as “the best thing we could hope for,” the move reunites the team with one of its most iconic figures, whose influence on the game still resonates across generations. Hawkins, whose dazzling athleticism and on-court creativity helped define the Suns’ early identity, will now bring his wealth of experience, knowledge, and charisma back to the franchise — this time from the sidelines.

“This is about legacy, inspiration, and building the future with the wisdom of the past,” said Suns General Manager James Jones. “Having Connie Hawkins back in the Suns family in this new role is not only symbolic but profoundly strategic. He understands the soul of Phoenix basketball.”

Hawkins, 82, will serve as a mentor to both players and coaches, focusing on skill development, player mindset, and team culture. His presence is expected to bridge the gap between the Suns’ rich history and their future ambitions, especially as the team looks to build on recent playoff success.

Connie Hawkins was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1992 and played for the Phoenix Suns from 1969 to 1973. He remains a beloved figure in Arizona sports and a symbol of resilience, elegance, and innovation in basketball.

Fans and players alike have responded with enthusiasm and reverence to the news.

“This is the best thing we could hope for,” said All-Star shooting guard Devin Booker. “Connie is a legend — having him around makes us all better.”

The Suns plan to officially welcome Hawkins back during a special halftime ceremony at their home ope

ner this fall.
